A Starstruck Kiss is the prequel to William and Jess’ story. Jess is paying her way through college by snapping pictures of the rich and famous. Her plans are rock solid and nothing can deter her. That is until tall, dark and British William appears and he is the personification of all of Jess’ weaknesses. Jess tries to be strong but William’s accent is her kryptonite.
William is in LA on a temporary visa but he is desperate to make things more permanent. Clutching at straws, he turns to his uncle to help him out but this requires him to do some undercover work and his plans are scuppered when he finds himself attracted to his subject: Jess.
Jess was quite aloof and she didn’t give much of herself to William or me as the reader, because of this I found it hard to feel one way or the other about her. But as I’m going on to read their full story, I will go in with an open mind.
I felt distrustful of William as he was holding something back from Jess and this prevented me from loving him. When the truth came out in the end, as unbelievable as it was, it did soften my opinion of him. Their story is just beginning and I do hope it picks up in Stars in Their Eyes and I get the much missed chemistry I am used to from Lauren Blakey.
This novella was a little different as their relationship wasn’t the focus, Jess’ job was at the forefront and it was interesting to see how her life worked. She had to be available at a moment’s notice and her celeb knowledge was impeccable. It didn’t really have a fresh new adult feel to the book, I felt William and Jess read older and I pictured them in their late twenties.
A Starstruck Kiss wasn’t as exciting as Lauren Blakely’s other work. I could quite happily let Jess and William go at this point but as I already have a copy of their full story I am going to begin that in the hopes they win me over.
If you are a fan of Lauren Blakely’s work then you may enjoy meeting an interesting new couple.
