“Jake owned her, body and soul, and she was helpless against it. Somewhere along the way, between the bondage, the spankings and the whips, she’d fallen in love with the compassion, the tenderness and the complete adoration he showed her.”

I had previously read book five in this series and I was intrigued to read where it all began. Book one is Jake and Cali’s story.
Cali is a divorced mother of two. After years of repressing her desires, she finally gathers the courage to join the very discreet BDSM club called The Den. Cali is looking for a Dom, no one in particular, she just knows her nonexistent sex life is not what she wants for herself so she takes matters into her own hands. Never did Cali think the very first man she met would be the only Dom for her.
“She’d finally found freedom. She didn’t want to be anal and represses any longer. Maybe she’d get burned, but at least she could say she jumped. She tried. She dove in headfirst for once and felt more alive than she had in years.”
Jake owned The Den along with his two partners, Seth and Deklan. Jake no longer took submissives and he was rather annoyed when Seth insisted he meet with Cali personally to determine her suitability for the club. Within moments of meeting Cali, her openness, innocence and vulnerability spoke to him. He knew immediately no one else could have Cali as she was destined to be his.
“Her eyelids hung heavy over eyes that had turned a deep emerald green. Her lips were parted and her chest lifted with each breath. So fucking beautiful.
“You’re mine.” He held her gaze, forcing her to understand. “When you’re here, you’re mine.”
I really enjoyed this storyline. After all the New Adult books I consume, it is refreshing to read about a forty four year old heroine, proving she can still be sexy. Cali had lived a very unhappy life and I liked the courage and determination she showed when she took charge of her own destiny and asked to join the club. Her reward was Jake, someone she never expected to meet. Cali thought the club would be a release for her, a place to explore her desires; never did she expect to fall in love with her Dom.
“With everything she’d given up since the divorce, this was one thing she couldn’t force herself to let go. Jake was hers. Being his sub was about her. For her.”
I loved the dark brooding persona Jake took on. He kept to himself and his role in the club was private, just like his partners too. Jake never settled in one place for a length of time and his contract at the club was ending, this was the perfect time for him to make his escape that was before Cali came along and showed him there was more to life when it’s filled with love.
“What he hadn’t admitted to Cali was the fact he was tired of being a Dom. Somewhere along this path, he’d lost the other side of him. The side Cali could give him back if only he dared to take it. Dared to take the risk.”
I loved Jake and Cali together, the scenes they shared in the club were smoking hot but the romance developing underneath was what hooked me. Cali and Jake were not fresh faced teenagers, they both knew the risks were higher and in order to open up completely they had to trust each other.
I really like Lynda Aicher’s writing. Usually third person isn’t my favourite but upon reading the first page, I knew I wouldn’t struggle and I wanted to be immersed in Cali and Jake’s world. There was a good mix of the BDSM element and the relationship developing between Jake and Cali. I think this book is great for readers not sure of the BDSM world as it starts off mild with plenty of hot scenes.
I really enjoyed Bonds of Trust and I believed in Jake and Cali’s relationship, so much so, I was praying for Jake to fix things when Cali thought he had done the unthinkable. This is a well-written, entertaining and erotic piece of work. I suggest you find out for yourself today.
Lynda Aicher has always loved to read. It’s a simple fact that has been true since she discovered the words of Judy Blume at the age of ten. After years of weekly travel as a consultant implementing computer software into global companies, she ended her nomadic lifestyle to raise her two children. Now, her imagination is her only limitation on where she can go and her writing lets her escape from the daily duties of being a mom, wife, chauffeur, scheduler, cook, teacher, volunteer, cleaner and mediator. If writing wasn’t a priority, it wouldn’t get done.
