It’s been a while since I’ve visited the world of the Wild Ones and it was good to be back. In the last book, Jake’s character was introduced, he was the dark, brooding type and I was looking forward to getting to know him better.
In essence, this story is about the preacher’s daughter getting together with the local bad boy but we got so much more than that. Laney was shy and reserved and never one to take risks. After leaving her cheating ex, she takes a job in her hometown, it just happens to bring her right to Jake’s door.
"Oh, God! That's perfect! The preacher's daughter!" It seems like he's making fun of me, and I bristle. "And why is that perfect?" I ask sharply. Jake lowers his head and looks me square in the eye. "Because I've got a thing for forbidden fruit, Laney Holt. Consider yourself warned."
Jake doesn’t get close to anyone, he even struggles to show his own sister affection, stemming back from a traumatic childhood. His reputation may be wild but Jake just likes to have fun and when wallflower Laney shows up at his door, he takes great pleasure in coaxing her out of her shell.
"She's everything good in me. She's everything I could ever want. She's everything I could ever hope to achieve in life. And I'll spend my very last breath making sure she's happy."
I really liked the change in Laney’s character over the course of the story, she had always wanted to break free of her old reputation and Jake gave her the strength to do that. As the story progressed, it was clear to see that something more was building between them, but Jake’s fears and Laney’s shyness was stopping them from taking the risk.
"You saved me, Jake." I smile. "You saved me first."
Some Like It Wild was a fun, easy to read story. M. Leighton created endearing characters that had great chemistry and plenty of steamy scenes. If you are a fan of the series, you will love Jake’s story if you haven’t read any of these books then you need to change that today.
