Taken is book 2.5 in the Holton Woods series, Eli and Wade were very much present in books one and two but this time, they got a novella dedicated to them and I must say, it’s my favourite book of the series so far!
Wade and Eli’s relationship has always been on fragile ground. Eli struggles with putting a label on his sexuality and Wade struggles to trust Eli won’t up and leave in the middle of the night.
Like the other books in the series, the setting in Eli and Wade’s story took place in Jarrett’s club and even though there wasn’t much action or outside involvement, it was character centred and this was important in order for Wade and Eli to work out their differences.
I really like Eli and Wade as a couple and there were times I worried that their issues were too deep for them to work through but I always had hope and I loved reading about them.
“The words tore out of him, each one shaking the foundation he’d built over so many years. But for Wade, to keep him, Eli would rip away every bit of protection.”
Taken must be read in series order as Eli and Wade are integral characters in the Holton Woods story. I was pleased they got the chance to shine on their own and given the time needed to work out their relationship issues. I thought the writing flowed well and I was hooked from the beginning, as I really like both of these characters.
“I’m betting my life on you.” Eli lifted their joined hands to his mouth and whispered against Wade’s skin. “Don’t give up on me.”
The series continues with Gabe and Natalie’s story, and if the teaser at the end of Taken is anything to go by, theirs is set to be an explosive story!
