Undone is a sweet romance in a small town setting. Looking back on the story, quite a lot of drama was packed into the pages. There was plenty of romance, laughter and tear shedding moments too.
Paige moves back into her parent’s house after losing her job, apartment and boyfriend in one fell swoop. Thinking the small town has nothing to offer her, Paige is far from happy that is until hunky mechanic, Brendan rescues Paige from the side of the road and things start looking up.
It was nice to read about a slow courtship, Paige and Brendan took their time getting to know each other, and the time they spent dating each other was filled with lots of laughs and compromising positions. I liked the community feel to the story and the supporting characters that were involved. It wasn’t before long that Brendan was falling hard for Paige.
“She felt so right pushed up against him, like she fit here, in his arms and in his life.”
“It took everything in him not to say, Pack it all up, Paige. Pack everything you have and move in with me. But somehow he held his tongue. She needed time. Time to realise that he was the real deal. Time to realise he wasn’t ever going to be able to let her go.”
Paige was a little more reluctant to declare her feelings but that was due to her being burned in the past. Plenty of drama and heartache came from Brendan’s past and an issue with Paige’s family, it was emotional and I couldn’t hold back the tears.
The writing was easy to follow, written in third person it enabled me to get a feel for both Brendan and Paige’s feelings, although sometimes I felt the perspective would change within the same paragraph and I couldn’t be sure whose eyes I reading the scene through.
Paige and Brendan were both likeable characters and Brendan was so sickly sweet at times. Just what a feel good romance entails.
“Paige, you’re it for me, with your kisses that taste like oranges. You’re the warm sheets next to me every morning, and the bright colours in the dryer when we do the laundry. You’re the toothbrush next to mine on the sink. You’re the first sip of coffee in the morning, and the last sip of wine at night. You’re it. You’re the one.”
It’s not often in books you get to live through the couple’s HEA and it was sweet to read the progression of Paige and Brendan’s relationship. If you are looking for a small town romance with a big heart then check out Undone today.
Shannon Richard grew up in the Panhandle of Florida as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book, and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s in English literature and still lives in Tallahassee, where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She’s still waiting for her Southern, scruffy Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she’s a pretty big fan of the whimsy.
