I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have to admit that this was my first time reading sci-fi. (GASP) I know, I know! Why haven’t I gotten into this genre sooner? I am more of a contemporary or paranormal romance girl. Don’t judge me. I just love romance. However, when I read the blurb of this story, I knew I had to read it. As an avid reader, I do notice that many of my usual reads blend together. Shadow Born was a refreshing challenge for me. I was taken to a completely different world, and I didn’t want to leave.
Raffin is on earth trying to blend in as a teenager at his local high school. He must take pills daily to avoid being seen in his true form. One day at school his world literally collides into a fellow classmate, Ari. The two feel the connection immediately. Raffin and Ari develop a relationship neither one saw coming. Although they fall for each other quickly, the author’s seamless writing of this story makes it believable. Their deep rooted connection is beyond words. Raffin and Ari find it easy to confide in each other as they find out how they are connected.
This story was fast-paced and kept me wanting to do nothing else but read. The writing is funny and engaging. The author builds this world that you can’t help but getting wrapped up in. Her writing was flawless in that everything was well explained and interconnected, yet revelations and secrets came up that I did not see coming. Nothing was predictable. The story had some interesting twists and turns that continued to keep the story interesting.
Shadow Born is not just a book for sci-fi fans, I believe lovers of contemporary and/or paranormal romance books will enjoy this read. While this is sci-fi, there is romance and it is truly heart felt. It’s not every day you pick up a book and several hours pass by without you realizing it. This is what happened to me as I read this story. I highly recommend this book regardless of your favorite genre. I found this book entertaining, suspenseful, and well written. I genuinely enjoyed this story and am looking forward to more books in this series.
