Reed Tennyson. You have my heart. I am ruined for future book boyfriends. As a fan of this series and all of these Bama boys, I was so excited to get to Reed’s story. Nothing prepared me for just how much I would love his story and how much it would mean to me. Reed is perfection.
“Love should be unpredictable. I want it to hit me and like, knock me on my ass.”
Reed doesn’t do the same girl twice. Literally. He is a love and leave ‘em kind of guy. He has his reasons. It’s much easier that way. The girls know this about him. Never expect anything he cannot give. But Reed loved once. Or so he thought. Until a woman brought down his whole world. She shattered his heart and barely looked back to help him pick up the pieces. Years later, he may be over her but refuses to allow someone to make him feel that vulnerable and weak again. That is...until her.
“Your voice might be my favorite sound.”
Beth Davis is a breath of fresh air. The moment he lays his eyes on her, his heart exhales. She is new in town and so different than anyone he has ever met. She hasn’t had the easiest life, but never makes excuses. She faces adversity with strength. Reed recognizes this, but is hesitant to follow through on his attraction to her. Until he can’t hold back anymore. Circumstances force an arrangement that is opposite in what Reed believes in but may serve its purpose. Little does Reed know is that this arrangement would change the course of his life. And would shatter anything he thought he knew about his heart.
“It’s only ever been you, Beth.”
I found Reed and Beth’s story to be sweet, sexy, sensual, and addicting. I never wanted to put my kindle down. Their story attests to the truth in finding love where it’s least expected. Reed was never supposed to love. Never supposed to open up his heart and mind to that possibility. Ever. And Beth? She wanted a fresh start. But that’s the thing about love. It waits for no one. Love goes where it belongs. And it found its place with Reed and Beth. I loved that we felt Beth and Reed fall for each other. We were never told. We are immersed in their lives and watch the walls come down around their hearts. They fall easily, effortlessly. Their love conquered every fear possible. It made Reed realize that love IS a risk...but love with Beth? It's just simply worth it.
“I’m so in love with you I feel like I can’t breathe.”
When I Fall goes beyond your typical bad boy never falls in love story. If you’ve read the previous books in this series, we are given a small glimpse of Reed. His story allows us to truly get to know him and understand the way he is and how his heart was broken. He is a beautiful, funny human being. He has the biggest heart. He loves with such conviction and truth. When he loves, truly loves...he goes all in. Nothing held back. I laughed, I teared up, I was simply invested in his story from start to finish. The chemistry is off the charts between Beth and Reed. The author has an exceptional talent for writing men that you can’t help but fall for. The writing is real, raw, and genuine. Her character development is simply amazing. The rest of the Bama boys are in Reed’s story. I love that she continues to intertwine all her characters even as the series moves on. I enjoyed every moment of When I Fall. It truly solidified my love for this author and her characters. Bama Boys lover for life! #DickMeUpReed
I fell in love with Reed the moment he joked about doing naughty things to Mia under a deli table, and I absolutely could not wait to dive head first into his book. We got second hand accounts of what he had been through from other characters early in this series, but I needed to experience things from his own eyes. Reed is a smart mouthed, dirty talking, fun character, and I knew I'd be bumping him up on my book boyfriend list just as soon as I read When I Fall.
Immediately, my heart broke for Beth, and I could tell what kind of story this would be. One that would pull at my heart stings and bring out all the feels. Fleeing from an abusive relationship, Beth runs in the direction of the only family she has left. An aunt she didn't know about, who has offered her a place to stay. It was clear right away that Beth was struggling emotionally, although she was adamant that this wasn't the case. She was beaten down and dejected, and it caused a dull ache in my chest whenever I thought about what she had probably been through. And the comfort she feels when slowly realizing that her Aunt and Uncle want her with them was so utterly heartwarming, that it made me tear right up. An easy thing, if you know me, but still significant.
Reed and Beth have a super interesting introduction, and it turns into an even more interesting agreement between the two of them. This opens the door for Reed to stray from his usual arrangement with women and actually take the time to get to know Beth, and she proves to be such a breath of fresh air for him! I was giddy with excitement and hardly able to contain my smile every moment they were together. They were beyond adorable together and I couldn't wait for things to really get started and heat up! And boy did they heat up! This author is no stranger to sexy, filthy-mouthed heroes who know a thing or two in the bedroom, and Reed blew each and every one of these guys out of the water! Holy. Crap. That book boyfriend list I mentioned? Yeah, he's a permanent fixture now. And he comes with a warning label.
These two characters, more than any others in this series so far, grabbed ahold of my heart and held on tight. I fell so in love with them and their story that I couldn't get enough. They're the sweetest, most adorable couple ever, and they compliment each other perfectly. They supported each other, built one another up, and learned to trust. Together. It was a beautiful thing. Their chemistry was palpable, and insanely hot. I'm so obsessed with this book.
As usual, all of the previous couples in this series make appearances and, if you follow this series, you'll be oh so happy about quite a few things! The books in this series, although all standalones, blend together seamlessly, which is a testament to how well written they are. The author does a fabulous job of making us fall in love with new characters and couples without losing place in our hearts for old friends.
This story was fantastic, I can't say much more about it. It's fast paced, impossible to put down, and full of perfect, heart-melting moments. Reed had ruined me for all other book boyfriends. Run, don't walk, and buy this book as soon as possible. And if you haven't started this series yet...what are you waiting for?!

When I fall is the third in the Alabama Summer series by J. Daniels and is Reed and Beth’s story. Reed the guy who had his heart broken, and had therefore he had given up on love. He was just choosing to have meaningless one night stands until he meets Beth the girl who not had an easy life, and wants to find that all soul-consuming love.
“I WAS IN LOVE ONCE. Once. One time to many”
“Love should be unpredictable. I want it to hit me and like, knock me on my ass”
I was looking forward to this book, and J. Daniels didn’t disappoint. Reed he had such a big heart and was such a great friend and the more I read, the more I fell in love with this man. The fact he’s a dirty talker just sealed the deal even more.
“I just want to eat and fuck all day. You in?”
Beth was a sweetheart, levelheaded; down to earth girl and after all she had been through she still had an upbeat disposition. Love that she loves her Kindle, a girl after my own heart.
“Hope is a funny thing. Even when you think you have none, it refuses to lied down quietly. In the darkest moments of my life, I've always had hope”
I adored Reed and Beth together. I could feel their connection, and their chemistry was sizzling hot!! They shared many swoon worthy and tender moment between Beth and Reed. From the moment, Reed met Beth he knew she was different there was something about her. Loved how they help each other heal emotionally
“If it means something to you, it means something to me”
Just like the first two in the series when I Fall was a big hit with me. Loved catching up with Ben & Mia, and Tessa & Luke. Love the bathroom scene just was just too funny. The image of 3 hot men in uniform walking into a room well that just made me grin! And it had an ending that just left me grinning.
“All of me. All of you. Me and You”
I have said it before, and I will say it again, I love J Daniel writing style it just effortless from the start. I have loved this series it has been incredibly addictive. Along with Ben & Mia, and Tessa & Luke’s story. It's had the perfect mix of sweet, hot, funny, heartfelt angst and drama moments
I would highly recommend this series. All I can say is that this series has deepened my love for southern men!! I love Ben & Luke, but oh my!! I do love Reed!
