Tick, tick, tock.
That’s all I have now.
A small room, a photograph, and time.
They want me to trust them and confess my sins.
They told me they wouldn't judge me—they lied.
I thought we could convince the world that this wasn't a crime.
We were wrong.
Time doesn't stand still.
The clock keeps ticking, the world is unconvinced, and now…
Now he is gone.
As I write this review, my heart is beating in my chest. Can you hear it? Writing this review brings me back to every single emotion I felt while I was reading Veiled Innocence. This story MOVED me. Veiled Innocence is so much more than your standard student teacher taboo romance. It goes deeper.
“My ending staring right at me from the very beginning.”
Addison falls for her teacher. Let’s call him Mr. M. He settles the mess that lives insides her head. He calms the storms that rages within her. But it’s wrong. So wrong. Yet Addison is relentless. She pursues this man. He tries to resist, but she already has a hold on him. I refuse to go into much detail regarding the plot. As the synopsis gives little away, so will my review. This spellbinding story is to be full experienced, word by word. No review can truly capture this masterpiece of a story.
“Bringing our fingers to his bare chest, he moved them until we were tapping out the beats of his heart.”
This affair is consuming. Overwhelming. Unexpected. Mr. M never stood a chance against Addison’s advances. He’s in over his head. But he is tethered to her. His heart and soul. He is in so deep and not sure he can escape or if he even wants to. Will he even survive that? The chemistry between these two is on a level I can barely put into words. Their love is unyielding. Ceaseless. Their love is powerful and simply defies everything they are up against.
“You make it go away.”
“I make what go away?”
As Mr. M gets to know Addison, he realizes how much of her past has shaped her to be the person she is. That there is so much to understand about her. But what he does know is that Addison settles his chaos as well. She simply makes sense in his world. She is alluring and enticing and he wants to do so much more than save her. Mr. M. loves with such conviction and truth. He only sees her.
“You’re going to ruin me.”
“You’re going to save me.”
Can we simply talk about the writing? Miss Ella Frank can do no wrong. She maintains her usual detailed writing style, yet every book from her is never prescriptive. They all stand on their own. Every book has a voice. And Veiled Innocence is no different. Her writing is an art. And as an avid reader, I noticed that this is something that I do not come across very often. There are people that write books, and there is Ella Frank. Her talent in crafting words puts her on her own level. The writing was bewitching. I was easily engrossed in the story from the very first page. The flow of the story is flawless as we are given both POVs in a way you’ve never seen before.
“Why can’t I do this for you?”
“Chase the monsters away.”
I lived this book. Every page. I was on edge. As much as I wanted to read quickly to see how everything unfolds, I simply took my time. Not wanting to miss anything. Every single word gave meaning to the story. Every. Single. One. Don’t blink. You can easily miss something. The author is very meticulous in her use of words. Your heart will race as you get deeper into the story. You will fall for them. Regardless of their circumstances, their love is transcending and beautiful.
“Why would I ever want to destroy what’s keeping me alive?”
Tick. Tick. Tock. Those three simple words will haunt me from a long time to come. It will remind me of this gripping and compelling story. I highly suggest you throw away any notion you have about student teacher romances. This is NOT that book. It’s more. The author pushes and challenges you as a reader. She challenges all thoughts on love and what it truly means. The power in love and all it entails. Veiled Innocence allows you to see love in all it’s glory. In the good and bad times. How love changes. How love saves. I will forever remember Addison and Mr M and all they faced. All they had to endure. That sometimes you find love in the least expected places.
“...but what is love without some madness.”

“If someday you fly away Jaynie-bird, can I go with you?”
Jaynie Cumberland has been in the foster care system since her early teens. She’s never been wanted. Not until she meets Flynn O’Neill, who is also no stranger to the same foster care system. They both share a past of pain and loneliness. Jaynie is very resistant to get close to Flynn in any way. But slowly, she lets down her walls and Flynn becomes her solace. The bright star in the only dark sky she’s ever known. And Flynn? He’s forever haunted by his past. He merely exists, waiting for the day until he turns eighteen to escape. But Jaynie? She changes things.
“Flynn is quickly becoming my brightest star, one that manages to be seen even on the cloudiest of nights.”
We are taken on a journey with two broken people that don’t know love. But easily recognize it in the other. Their story is heartbreaking, yet inspirational. Overwhelming, yet breathtaking. This goes beyond the cliche characters with a past. It goes deeper. Jaynie and Flynn face a life of hardship that no person should go through. They bear a cross that no one should endure. But they find hope in each other. But what happens when that hope is tested? When choices are to be made? And the promises are challenged? You simply love deeper.
“I promise you, Jaynie Cumberland, I will never forget you. You are burned in my soul.”
The writing is so real. Raw in it’s delivery. Emotional with it’s words. You have not read this story before. The author realistically tackles some heavy emotional subjects here. She also exposes the reader to things not usually discussed in books, but is so very relevant to today’s world. You do so much more than read this story. You live and breathe it. The author easily places the characters inside your heart as you experience their highs and lows. Their trials as well as their triumphs. This beautiful and thought provoking story is so much more than I could ever put into words.
“You were always the brightness, Jayne. You made my world alive.”
Tomorrow’s Lies is a true testament to the power and resiliency of the human spirit. Flynn and Jaynie have never experienced what it is to love or be loved. But they effortlessly found it each other. They loved loudly. Fiercely. Their love transcends. It’s profound. Their love knows no end. Their love faced an adversity that many would not survive. But their love simply endured.
“Nothing in this world could ever stop me from loving you. We’re forever, you and me.”
Jaynie and Flynn found love in the darkest place. Where love does not go. Where love doesn’t exist. Despite their past and everything they’ve faced, they love from the very depths of their soul. I leave out the plot of this story as it must be experienced by the reader. You are never told of their love. You simply feel it. Their souls are tethered. Their lives forever changed. Tomorrow’s Lies is a touching and heartfelt story about love and hope. About choosing love over the darkness of the world. Although scarred, the hearts of Jaynie and Flynn are so pure. Their love unyielding. They love with courage, and with a confidence that is felt from their very being. I cannot wait to see where their story takes us next.

Just because she's famous doesn't mean she's happy.
Freshman Lianne Challice is known to millions of fans as Princess Vindi. But sometimes a silver screen sorceress just wants to hang up her wand, tell her manager to shove it, and become a normal college student. Too bad that’s harder than it looks.
She’s never lived a normal life. She hasn’t been to school since kindergarten. And getting close to anyone is just too risky — the last boy she kissed sold the story to a British tabloid.
But she can’t resist trying to get close to Daniel "DJ" Trevi, the hot, broody guy who spins tunes for hockey games in the arena. Something's haunting his dark eyes, and she needs to know more.
DJ's genius is for expressing the mood of the crowd with a ten second song snippet. With just a click and a fade, he can spread hope, pathos or elation among six thousand screaming fans.
Too bad his college career is about to experience the same quick fade-out as one of his songs. He can't get close to Lianne, and he can't tell her why. And the fact that she seems to like him at all? Incredible.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ll be honest. When an author continues to add to a series, I get worried. Worried that there will come a point where I will be over the series and ready for completely new characters. But every time Sarina releases a book, my worries go away. The Fifteenth Minute was no exception. Just when I didn’t think I could love her couples anymore than I already do, Daniel and Lianne blow me away.
The moment Lianne sees Daniel, her world is tilted a bit on his axis. She met him on another occasion, but she was not quite sober. This is different. They immediately bond over music at a party/get together. Their banter is witty, funny, and I thought they were absolutely amazing for each other. Leanne is a famous actress, determined to lead a somewhat normal life and attend college like others her age. She’s never felt like she ever belonged anywhere. She never fit in. Until she meets Daniel. And Daniel? Well he’s a college student that also DJ’s for the hockey games. But he also has a secret. One that could threaten them before anything even starts.
“So this is what people mean by attraction. He is the magnet, and I feel the pull.”
The more Lianne and Daniel spend time together, they both realize there is something much deeper between them. It goes beyond friendship. Lianne is herself with Daniel. He brings out the best in her. She fits with him. She’s never wanted to be desired or dare I say loved? By anyone. But Daniel changes it for her. And Daniel learns he can share his heart with Lianne. His past has left him without the ability to give in emotionally or physically with another woman. But it’s different with her. He wants nothing more than to be in her presence. His unyielding love for her is felt throughout the entire book.
“The only time I feel like myself is when I’m with you.”
Fifteenth Minute is the kind of read where you never want it to end. I laughed through their story. I teared up, I simply lived it with Daniel and Lianne. I had no idea what to expect with these two, and it was everything I never knew I needed. There is no insta love here. Daniel and Lianne are two lost souls that find themselves in each other. Their connection is unlike anything I’ve ever read. It was magical. There is so much more I can say about the story, but I refuse to spoil it. To watch these two fall for each other is simply breathtaking. I love this series and this was a wonderful addition to it. I cannot wait for what’s to come.
Lianne Challice is chatting me up.
As I fetch the pizza I ordered from the window, I try to decide whether or not I’m going insane. Maybe all the stress in my life has finally cracked me.
But no. When I deposit the pie on a table, her big eyes cut from the jukebox over to me, before darting away again. She is so freaking cute and so feminine that it’s making me crazy. Her mouth is like a little red candy that I’m dying to taste. And who has teeth that straight? She intimidates the fuck out of me, to be honest.
I make another trip to the pizza counter for paper plates and napkins. Usually we just grab slices off the tray like animals. But tonight I’m trying to be classy. The idea makes me snicker to myself. As if. Impressing Lianne Challice isn’t something I’m capable of. But I’m having fun trying. And there hasn’t been a whole lot of fun in this year for me. So that’s something.
Years from now I’ll look back on this night and laugh. Guys, did I ever tell you about the time I chatted up a movie star? I mean, my father is still telling people about the time he sat one table over from Tina Fey at Nobu.
Lianne sneaks another glance in my direction and I beckon to her. “Have a slice?” If she wants one, now is the time. In a minute my brother and his teammates will fall on the pizza like seagulls.
“Thank you. I guess I should. I didn’t make it to the dining hall tonight.”
“Your enthusiasm for Capri’s pizza overwhelms me,” I tease. “Aren’t you a fan?”
She slides a slice onto a paper plate, considering the question. “Pizza is like a nineties hit. Pretty good, especially if that’s all there is and you’re hungry.”
My own slice stops halfway to my mouth and I laugh. “Seriously?”
“I don’t know if we can be friends,” I say before taking a bite.
“Because I don’t love pizza?”
I shake my head. “Who doesn’t love pizza? It’s, like, a basic human desire.” I cram a bite into my mouth to prove my point. Smooth, right?
She bites her bottom lip, and I realize I’d rather have that for dinner. “It’s okay. But it’s mostly just something you eat when you’re in a hurry or need to feed a crowd on the cheap.”
“Ah, I see,” I say when I can speak again. “The problem is that you haven’t had any great pizza. You’re a freshman, right? You don’t know all the glory that is Harkness pizza. Have you been to Gino’s Apizza?”
Lianne shakes her head. “I don’t think so.”
“She doesn’t think so,” I scoff. “Baby, if you’d had great pizza, you’d remember.” And now I sound like a real perv, but Lianne Challice is smiling at me, watching me with her big doe eyes, and I feel it like a drug. “They make everything from scratch. Even the sausage. We’ll go together, so I can prove my point.”
Annnd I think I just asked a movie star out on a date. Here comes the crash and burn.
First her eyes widen just a smidge. Then two pink spots appear on her face, one on either cheekbone. “Well, it would be a shame to live in this town and never know its true pizza greatness.”
I replay that sentence in my head and realize that she didn’t turn me down. “True,” I agree. “Do you think Thursday would be a night to experience pizza Nirvana?” I’m overselling the hell out of Gino’s now, but it’s working for me.
She gives me a serious frown, and I’m hoping she’s not busy on Thursday. Because I have back-to-back hockey games to DJ on Friday and Saturday. “Thursday it is. I shall prepare to be amazed.”

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have loved Noah Lake from the very moment I started RUSH. My heart soared over his story. When I heard we were getting a novella, I am not sure how to truly put into words how excited I was. Because Noah? His story inspires. Gives hope. And this novella? It was everything I never knew I needed, but so glad it came to be.
“The light in my darkness. The reason I live instead of exist. You are the dawn of my every new day.”
If you’ve read Rush you know that Noah makes a huge sacrifice to be the man he believes Charlotte deserves. But what we don’t know are the details of this journey. In Endless Possibility, we are placed in the most vulnerable time in Noah’s life. As he waded through the darkness, he found his light in Charlotte. Noah puts his pride aside and truly embraces the truth of his blindness. He wants to live, no longer exist. He wants to love. Wholeheartedly. Unconditionally. And the only way to do this is to let go.
“Because the idea of failure, of living without her in my life, was a nightmare worse than blindness.”
Nothing is held back in Endless Possibility. You understand Noah’s inner battles. You FEEL his struggle. His struggle to live even with his circumstances. The author brings you inside Noah’s darkness. This journey breaks him. But there is one thing that allows him to not break completely. To persevere. And that is Charlotte. She is literally his sunshine on his darkest days. You truly do not understand the profoundness of his love for Charlotte. Until now. His love endures. His love is never ending. His love is breathtaking. He loves relentlessly. Unashamed. His love triumphs.
“Everything. Every breath. Every beat of my heart was for her.”
The writing is flawless. We the readers are effortlessly placed inside the pages of Noah’s story. Inside his heart. And most importantly inside his soul. The words are magical. Powerful. Moving. Inspiring. The author brilliantly executes a heart stopping beautiful story where a man does the most self less thing to earn the love of his life. But he soon learns that he never had to earn her. Charlotte was embedded in his soul the moment she became his.
“Charlotte owned that particular piece of me. Hell, she owned all of me, heart and soul...”
I am vague on the plot as this is HIS story. And what an honor to truly see inside of his heart. Is there a man that loves as fiercely as Noah Lake? I am not so sure. Noah loves Charlotte with a love that makes you want to weep. He loves from the very depths of his soul. His heart is beautiful. Brave. Intoxicating. To say I loved Endless Possibility is an understatement. The love between Charlotte and Noah challenges all thoughts on love and all it is capable of overcoming. Miss Emma Scott...do you know how much Noah Lake OWNS my heart?

A sassy, in-your-face baker. A panty-stealing, dirty-talking accountant. And a bathroom quickie that changed their lives forever.
Wedding hook-ups never amount to anything.
Unless that hook-up knocks you on your ass.
For Dylan Sparks and Reese Carroll, the big day can’t arrive soon enough. Dylan, stressed to the max from overbearing mothers and last minute preparations, struggles to keep her sanity. As for Reese, he’s fighting to not only keep his bride-to-be safe from creepy investors, but also to make it to the actual wedding day without losing his mind in the process.
Throw in a crazy group of friends, and a bachelor/bachelorette party weekend getaway, and you have a recipe for the sweetest wedding of the year.
Reese Carroll and Dylan Sparks cordially invite you to read Sweet Possession.
Warning: This books is recommended for readers over the age of 18 due to strong language and explicit sexual content.
Reese. Carroll. How I love you. Let me count the ways...
Seriously J. Daniels?! My love for this man is endless. I did not know I needed more Reese and Dylan until I read this book! It was everything I could have asked for and more.
If you’ve read the first book, Sweet Addiction, you know that Dylan and Reese are about to take a huge step in their relationship. And we as the reader are along for the ride. If you know and love this entire group, you know that nothing about them is ordinary. And this story isn’t either. In true J. Daniels fashion, she will have you laughing out loud, swooning over these hot men, and then tearing up because she knows how to make you feel the love between Dylan and Reese.
“The way Reese says ‘I love you’, I feel it more than I heart it.”
As Dylan and Reese prepare for their upcoming nuptials, we get a glimpse into their life as a couple truly dedicated to one another. Although they met in a somewhat unconventional manner, they're tethered to each other for life. Dylan is still the fun and spunky character that we all love so much. With her business and planning of a wedding- life is overwhelming. But she would not have it any other way. And Reese continues to make you want to highlight every word that comes out of his mouth. His declarations of love for Dylan knows no bounds. He loves her to the depths of her soul.
“I could be without you for the rest of my life and I’d never want anyone else.”
If you think Dylan and Reese were hot in the first one, well get ready for them in Sweet Possession! They are simply off the charts. They love so fiercely. Reese Carroll easily puts so many other book boyfriends to shame. So why should you read the second installment? What makes this book so special? EVERYTHING. The author is brilliant in her execution of a sweet, sexy, and swoon worthy story. My love for this author, this story, and the characters are now multiplied. I am vague in the plot, but just know that this does not follow the normal formula. The author has a gift of putting her own twist on romance. You easily become embedded within the pages of this story.
“You were always meant to be mine. Even before I knew it.”
Sweet Possession was one of those stories that you curl up with and don’t put down until the very last page. It’s like meeting up with your best friends. You laugh, you cry, you live. And can we talk about the ending? LOVED. You don’t want your time with them to end. The entire gang is in this one and there are even some surprises. So stop what you're doing and be sure you are reading this! No seriously. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next.
*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
Sweet Possession is the second in the Sweet Addiction series by J Daniels. I was looking forward to spending a lazy day reading this one and catching up with Dylan Sparks and Reese Carroll as they prepare for their wedding and battle all the drama and stress that goes with it. I do love a good wedding!!
I will be honest, I did wonder if they need another book, as I was worried that it was just going to be more drama and more miscommunication. But I was so wrong as it was much more yes, there was drama, but it was just the right amount. I’m so glad that J Daniels gave them another book I loved seeing them together as a couple, the way they supported each other. Seeing how much they mean to each other. Their relationship was sexy, cute, funny, honest, a whole lot of hotness and sincere.
“You were always meant to be mine. Even before I knew it”
I loved seeing how much Reese and Dylan had grown as a couple, especially Dylan she did annoy me a little in the first book with some of her actions but in this one I loved her. I like how she took ownership of her past actions as how close she came to losing him because of them. Dylan now knows that Reese is it for her, he is her future, and he is her world.
“I do need him. I always need him. How I ever managed to convince myself otherwise is beyond me. I was complete a fool for ever denying my feelings for him”
I loved Reese in the first book, but in this one he stole my heart with his dirty talking, dirty texting and dirty letter writing. This man is just so lush so alpha and so super sexy. Everything he does for Dylan to show her she was his world just made me swoon. It wasn’t just the big things it was also the little things. He showed her that actions are just as important as words, and I loved that.
"I will never regret how I fell in love with Reese. I can’t. Every single second of it was worth it because it led us to this"
Sweet Possession was funny, sexy, romantic and addictive read. It was well written, and well paced. J Daniels with her superb writing had me smiling, laughing, swooning, and getting teary. Oh and let’s not forget the sex scenes oh wow HOT HOT HOT!!! They had me fanning myself. The supporting characters Joey and Juls were great yet again and like I said last time just adored their friendship; it was so funny and genuine. And I’m even Brooke has grown on me and I’m looking forward to reading her book.
I loved every bit of this book and the epilogue was super special. I recommend you one click today.

Sometimes life’s unforeseen paths lead us to discovering sides of ourselves we never knew existed.
Ace Bosse has always found solace at home, but when she returns for the summer from college she builds an unexpected relationship with the reckless Max Miller.
Three years ago, Max left for Alaska to find what he thought he’d lost, but now he realizes just how much he left behind.
Max teaches Ace that sometimes a little crazy is exactly what life needs while learning that some chances are worth taking, regardless of the risks.
But how do you know when you’ve met the right person? And will they be prepared to experience one of life’s biggest obstacles?
Falling in love isn’t easy, but holding on to it is where the real challenge lies.
Whoa. Hello new favorite author of mine. I’ve had several people recommend this series to me. As a reader I look for books to make me think. To allow me to feel and lose myself within the pages. Becoming His was this and so much more.
Harper (Ace) Bosse loves her home and the people in it. She has a huge family. And we get to meet them. All of them. She is the youngest but plays such a huge role. She keeps them together. She’s smart beyond reason. But if there is one thing Ace isn’t so smart about, it’s her love life. She goes through boys like it’s nothing. No. Not like that. Not sure what she is looking for, she easily gets bored and moves on. She’s never given her body or heart to another man. She’s never had the desire to. Until Max Miller. Max returns from Alaska after looking for something he realized he already had. Upon his return, his neighbor of many years, Ace catches his attention. His thoughts reside with her at all times. But she is not his to have. Until something shifts. And they are never the same.
“Love is an emotion that until spoken, I hadn’t realized the immense power that it holds.”
Becoming His is a slow build. Slow burn. Nothing is rushed. Max and Ace slowly fall for each other. But their journey to love is not the usual cookie cutter romance story. It’s so much more and truly the reason why I enjoyed it so much. Max is afraid of abandonment due to his past. And Ace still struggles to find herself. But the two find solace in each other. They find home. But how do you know this is the person for you? Their hearts speak it. Their hearts feel it. YOU feel it. What happens when you don’t listen to your heart?
“You make me believe in soulmates.”
I was easily captivated not only by this story, Max, and Ace, but also the rest of the characters. There are a lot of them. However, I will say that the author is brilliant in her character building. Her characters add such depth to the overall story. I found it hard to put down. I cried, I laughed. Talk about feels and emotion! I didn’t know what to expect from this story, but it was everything my heart needed. THIS is a romance story. Slow and steady, their story attests to the power in love and all that it can overcome. But like any love story...love isn’t easy.
“That’s because you were made for me to love.”
I am pretty sure Max and Ace stole my heart. Their love heals. It overcomes. Their love is everything. It is deep. Passionate. And you are fully immersed in their story. I am so lucky that all three books are already out. I am not sure if my heart could’ve taken the wait. That ending? TEARS. Becoming His was an amazing, emotional, heartfelt journey and I look forward to what is in store for this group.
“I loved her and she left. Maybe I wasn’t enough. Maybe I’ll never be enough.” I’ve been thinking these words since before we even got together.
Everything is new. The old no longer has a place here. Physical items are easy to replace. I'm constantly battling the ones that aren't.
Every thought and memory I have is stained.
You weren't even there for half of them.
How is she still present even though she left?
I can do this. I’m going to survive losing her.
My heart is so FULL after finishing this. I don’t even know how to FEEL. I’m overwhelmed with emotions. Book one I loved. Book two? It made my heart beat. And I am not sure if it will ever stop.
“Loving someone makes you stronger.”
Losing Her starts right off from where Becoming His left off. I will try to avoid spoilers for this and the first book as this story is to be experienced. You must live their journey. This is Max’s story. And it is SO much more than a retelling of the first book. It far surpasses that. We are allowed deep into Max’s broken yet, beautiful heart. His feelings on Ace and her family. How he’s no longer the man he once was. How he’s barely living, but surviving. The entire crew is in this one as the first one and there are even some surprises. They all deal with the aftermath of the end of the first book. We are once again, as readers, immersed into the Bosse and Miller family. And my heart enjoyed every minute of it.
“I never realized how confidence is like glass; strong and protective until it is hit just right. Then it shatters.”
Excuse me, but where has Max Miller been all my life? No, seriously. Wherever he has been, I am so glad I found him. Sigh. Or maybe he found me! The author is a truly gifted writer. Her words evoke emotions. Her writing reflects how much she pours her heart into her characters. As I write this review, I am still not over this story. It’s been a good hour since I put it down, and I cannot wait to get back to reading to start book 3. This author has truly and easily become one of my favorites.
“Had you just been waiting for someone to finally catch you?”
I love romance. I really do. And until this point, I am not sure if there has been a book that truly captured how fiercely a man can love a woman. Max loves Ace with his entire being. His soul. He loves her slowly, loudly. Immensely. His love is overwhelming and powerful. The author writes words straight from Max’s heart. His words are beautiful, poetic. Ace is Max’s heart. And you cannot truly love deeply without your heart.
“I would choose you every time, Ace.”
This book solidified my emotional investment in this story and the characters. I finished with tears in my eyes. I didn’t realize how hard I was gripping my kindle. If there is one thing I love about reading is how it makes me FEEL. And this did more than that. Losing Her is a beautifully written, captivating story. I cannot begin to explain how much of a journey this was for me. I did more than read this story. I lived it.

The synopsis of Everything, Everything caught my attention. The girl who was allergic to the world? This I had to read.
I devoured this book in exactly two hours. Two hours it took me to enjoy this really interesting, unique story and I urge you to do the same. I really enjoyed the set up of the story, I loved the unique chapters and the illustrations were just the icing on the cake.
Everything, Everything captured a tale of first love between two young adults. I love that earnest stage of life where the boy you are crushing on is your whole world. Nicola Yoon captured this perfectly and with Maddy’s world being so sterile and clinical with no sense of normality, her relationship with Olly was even more important.
“He’s the biggest risk I’ve ever taken.”
Olly was the sweetest boy with a roguish streak. His home life endeared me to him and his actions and conduct towards Maddy had me swooning. It was sweet romance at its finest.
The storyline was so different from what I have read before and I think my intrigue and the way in which the book was set out had me turning the pages even quicker. I could relate to Maddy. I had such a vivid picture of her “imprisonment” due to her medical condition that I clearly understood her need for more. More of Olly, more of life and more of a future.
“I was happy before I met him. But I’m alive now, and those are not the same thing.”
I had a few suspicions as I was reading and I think that added to the excitement of the story. Of course I would have loved more from the ending, what can I say? I’m greedy.
If you are a fan of YA or just looking for a different read, then I highly recommend this one.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As I sit here to write my review, I am trying to put into words just how much I loved this book. But words? They don’t do this story any justice. The words were EVERYTHING.
“For the first time in a long time, I want more than I have.”
Eighteen year old Madeline (Maddy) Whittier leads a life in a bubble. Literally. The world is not a safe place for someone like her, so she stays behind closed doors at all times. Her life is pretty monotonous as she spends her days with her mom and nurse. She learns to accept her fate. That due to her illness, she can never leave the four walls of her house. But the day she sees her new neighbor move in next door. There is a shift. His name Oliver (Olly) Bright. And he threatens to put color in her colorless world.
“...moving as if gravity affects him differently than it does the rest of us.”
Olly sees Maddy and he is intrigued. They spark an unconventional friendship, that later blossoms into the most beautiful love story. I am vague in the plot of the story as the reader should have the pleasure of living this story. You will want nothing more than to get lost inside of these pages. Maddy knows that friendship with Olly is a risk. A risk that she is willing to take. She doesn’t think twice. Simply because her heart has never wanted more. It’s never desired more. Not until Olly. And Olly is drawn to his beautiful human being. He sees her heart and wants nothing more than to become a part of it.
“He’s the opposite of all these things. He’s not safe. He’s not familiar. He’s in constant motion. He’s the biggest risk I’ve ever taken.”
So we have to talk about the words. These words are MOVING. Powerful. Thought provoking. Almost lyrical and poetic, the writing is seamless. The author carefully crafts her words as if she chose every word to be a significant part of this story. You are easily lost within the words. They draw you in. I haven’t read a story like this all year. Everything, Everything is in a class of it’s own.
“Maybe we can’t predict everything, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly.”
We need more diverse books. This book attests to that. It also reminds us that there is beauty in diverse of characters but also in writing. This was such a poignant, brilliant, story about a girl that learns about love and life and all it entails- the good and the bad. About falling deeply in love even when it means risking everything she’s worked so hard to protect- herself. It’s about love not caring about circumstances, just the hearts in which it resides. This book is original in it’s execution of not only the story, but the characters. Olly and Maddy are two of the most self-less human beings in this literary world. I cannot believe this a debut novel. Where has the author been hiding? I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
“I was happy before I met him. But I’m alive now, and those are not the same thing.”
Being a huge fan of the Alabama Summer Series, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to review Sweet Addiction. This one has been on my TBR list for quite a while now and I couldn't wait to dive in. And can we talk about that cover for a minute? Gorgeous! It looks fun, flirty, and [I have no shame] kind of yummy. I had high hopes that this book would prove to be all those things as well.
Following the awkward attendance of her cheating ex-boyfriend's wedding, Dylan is ready to partake in some "slutty wedding sex" and gets up close and personal with Reese, who she meets through her friend Juls' boyfriend. As their encounters continue past the reception, Dylan is convinced that she wants to keep things "monogamously casual" with Reese, who doesn't do serious relationships anyway, but it's harder than she thinks. The sex between them is scorching hot, their connection is undeniable.
Dylan and Reese, along with their friends, are a dirty, dirty bunch and are so. Much. Fun. The sexual tension, teasing words, and dirty mouths you'll find in this book are something else. Grab a fan and a cool drink before starting this one, ladies! Some of these scenes are HOT! One thing's for sure, this author knows how to write a smoking hot book boyfriend. Holy crap. Each leading man is better than the last. After starting off with the Alabama Summer boys, I wouldn't have thought any others could compare, but REESE? Reese gives them a run for their money. Boy, does he ever.
As for Dylan, she's a great heroine. A little naive where Reese and her feelings are concerned, but a really tough chick. She's witty, fun, and never hesitates to tell someone off when they deserve it. And the moment when she finally comes to terms with how strong her feelings towards Reese are, well it was heartbreakingly lovely, and I went all in right along with her.
As always, this author writes characters that are authentic and well-developed. These are characters you'll want to be friends with, ones that will work their way into your heart and you'll be sure to miss when you've turned the last page.
This book was fantastic. Daniels has become one of my absolute favorite authors and the stories she writes-- not to mention the guys-- make such an impact on me as a reader. I will not soon forget any of her characters, and the ones in Sweet Addiction are no exception. And what a fitting title. I was attached to this book from the moment I picked it up and didn't stop until I devoured every word. I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed some more. The dialogue was engaging, witty, and heartfelt. The characters were captivating, and the ending turned me into a big ball of crying mush. The only thing making me glad to be finished is knowing that I can now continue on with the series. Grab this book as soon as you can-- grab every one of this author's books.
Um. Why in the world did I take so long to read this? It has been on my kindle for some time. I devoured this book. It was sweet, sexy, funny, and oh so romantic. Just when I thought I couldn’t love J. Daniels anymore. I was wrong. She has easily become one of my all time favorites!
Cake and sweet treats, extraordinaire and business owner, Dylan Sparks attends a wedding of her ex boyfriend and is determined to have a wedding hook up with one of the attendees. Sounds messy right? Well it’s not. That’s because Dylan doesn’t want any rules or expectations. Meet hot guy. Get laid. Leave feeling satisfied. She literally falls in the lap of the most beautiful man she has ever seen, successful accountant, Reese Carroll. You feel the energy between them the moment they meet. They also have something in common. Or should I say want something in common? A casual hook up. What they didn’t expect was the connection they shared during that moment. It shocks them both. But Reese is a love and leave 'em kind of guy. And that is what Dylan wants. Or so they think.
Reese cannot stop thinking about Dylan. So he sends the most unique yet romantic package to let Dylan knows he’s interested. While Dylan insists they are nothing but casual, she cannot deny there is something more to be explored. They try the casual thing and decide to become “monogamously casual”. Yes. Those are their words! Eventually, being casual is not enough. They find themselves wanting more and falling deeper and that is when things really shift.
Can we please talk about the chemistry between Dylan and Reese? I had to fan myself a few times. But it goes beyond the sexy times. These two are made for each other. Dylan is flirty, fierce, and so much fun! Reese is devastatingly handsome, romantic, and I loved him from the moment I started. Their banter made this story stand out and put it in a category of it’s own. These two are passionate and their love for each other knows no boundaries. They love with such a strong and deep desire. Their journey to love isn't easy. Both are forced to take down their walls or risk losing each other.
This was so much more than your average story where a casual hook up turns into love. The author has true talent in crafting her characters in such a way that you live the story as you read. You become embedded within the pages. The characters become your friends and you want nothing more than to get lost within their story. Sweet Addiction was no different. The other characters, Juls, Joey, Ian, and Billy were also such a treat and a wonderful addition to this story.
Sweet Addiction was everything I needed in a romance. I laughed out loud (several times!). I swooned. I LOVED. I was absolutely invested in this story from the very first page until I swiped my kindle and hit the end. I watched two people fall irrevocably and effortlessly in love. I fell in love as they did. Dylan and Reese were never to fall in love. Those were the rules. But that’s the thing about the heart. It only follows the path to where it belongs. The heart doesn’t see rules. It breaks them. This was such a fantastic read and I am so looking forward to more Dylan and Reese!
*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
So hot on the heels of finishing Where We Belong by J. Daniel I start Sweet Addiction book one in her Sweet Addiction Series. Having enjoyed her Alabama Summer series, there was a very high percentage that I was going to like this book and of course I wasn’t proven wrong.
Sweet Addiction is Dylan Sparks and Reese Carroll’s story. When these two hook up at wedding Dylan thinks it just a one-time thing. However, Reese has different ideas he wants more than just one night. Dylan soon discovers that Reese is far too irresistible to turn down.
“We're not a couple. We're monogamously casual”
I enjoyed the storyline was sweet, romantic, sexy and maybe a little frustrating as there were a few times that I wanted to shake some sense into Dylan. Don’t get me wrong, I like Dylan she was a sassy, feisty character. But I will say a little more communication and a little more being honest with what she wanted wouldn’t have gone amiss. But hey, where is a story without a little bit of drama and angst and miscommunication. And Resse well, there wasn’t much not to like he was sexy, romantic, a dirty talker with some alpha qualities about him. I loved the sexual chemistry between theses two, but also the tender moments.
“I’m not only weak when it comes to sex around this man. He is slowly infiltrating every part of my soul”
“You make me want different thinks, things I’ve never wanted before”
Overall, I loved Sweet Addiction was an entertaining romantic read with some hot sexy times that left me grinning at the end. It had some great secondary characters that added to the story such as Dylan’s best friends Joey and Juls. I just adored their friendship; it was so funny and genuine.
If you haven’t, read the series that I would suggest you one click today, and meet some more great characters created by the very talented and lovely J. Daniels. I’m looking to reading book two, which is sitting on my Kindle very soon.
J. Daniels is the NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author of the Sweet Addiction series and the Alabama Summer series.
She loves curling up with a good book, drinking a ridiculous amount of coffee, and writing stories her children will never read. J grew up in Baltimore and resides in Maryland with her family.
I have to say this one has been sitting on my Kindle since it was first released back in 2013. I’m a little ashamed that I didn’t get to read it sooner as. I fell in love with Tracey Garvis-Graves after reading On the Island which is now one of my all time favorite books. So after reading an arc of Tracey’s latest book Heart –shaped –Hack (Loved it) I just had to go back and read the other books of hers that are just sitting on my Kindle.
I have to say I’m quite cross with myself that it took me so long because I loved Covet was a beautiful, moving and thought-provoking read. Once I started, I became absorbed it the story, and I didn’t want to put it down. I loved all the characters, and I want to find fault with them, but I couldn’t.
"Maybe love is like a pendulum. It swings back and forth, slowly, steadily, and sometimes you don’t know where it will come to rest.
I’m sure that many married couples could relate to the situation that Claire and Chris go through. Marriage is hard work, Sometimes life gets tough, you can forget the little things, and it’s the little things that mean the most. I think it ended the way it should have, and it was right for all the characters.
With Covet Tracey did an amazing job with her beautiful writing to tell a story about real life; and the struggles of married life, that wasn’t embellished for the sake of it. I will say that if I had read the book when it first came out, I would worried about one character and would have needed to know what was going to happen to him as I have so many questions. But as Cherish (Covet, #1.5) is sitting on my Kindle I'm going to read it next and hopefully going to have my question answered.
Tracey Garvis Graves is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author. What would be the harm in pretending you're someone else for a while? Especially if that someone else is rich and is vacationing in an amazing house for the summer? Nothing is wrong with it at all. Unless...
Gabe is the rich kid forced to spend the summer vacationing with his family. Lucy is the sexy girl next door that Gabe is obsessed with watching her strut her stuff swimming and lounging by the pool all day.
He finally gets up the nerve to go over and talk to her. They had an awful start to their summer fling, how does one really fall asleep mid make-out session anyways, Gabe? But I guess Gabe was hot enough, and Lucy was bored enough to give him another shot.
All was fun in the summer sun until the two go back to school and unexpectedly see each other. That's when Lucy runs in the opposite direction. Her lies are about to catch up with her and she's going to need to come clean if their feelings towards each other have any shot at true love.
I loved how Gabe was so straight forward, "I'm not the sensitive man who'll value your virginity and offer up my love in exchange for it." I thought it was cool that he didn't bullshit and sweet talk his way just to get sex. I was however, secretly hoping Lucy wouldn't give it up to him.
I liked how Gabe would assure Lucy that she didn't need to diet. On the other hand though, if she wants to have a salad, let her have a damn salad! Either way, it was nice that her not only showed her, but told her how much he loved her body, building her self-esteem about her body image in her mind. It did get a little tiring listening to her obsess over her weight though, it went on a little too long for my liking.
There was a mixture of funny AND hot in the book.
"Straddle my face."
"Yeah. Ride my face, Lucy. Come on."
Being that she was very inexperienced, I found her reply hilarious and likely a very accurate response.
I loved Gabe and Lucy together. Fantastic chemistry, hot love, and the ability to forgive and grab their love by the horns and go full force ahead. No matter what scary things may come along in their lives, these two have the winning formula to make it through anything.
In the Dark is another great NA book from Monica. Now we just have to wait for the story of the last lone man standing, Tristan.
Meet the crew!
